How to describe the Church of the Advent?
Some would cite the warm fellowship experienced among many of our members, in spite of our numbers (over 3,700). Others might think of the close relationships among our small groups, which meet each week for Bible study and prayer. Yet others would certainly point to the rich and continued traditions of faithful preaching and teaching, or the superb music that enhances worship, or the extraordinary ministries for children and youth, or the commitment to serving the needs of others from Birmingham to Pakistan.
And what about our theology?
Advent is a Gospel-centered church, with a “living, daring confidence in God’s grace” (Martin Luther) evident in any of our programs and ministries. Holding to what the Letter of Jude calls “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints”, this Gospel focus finds the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus ever and only at the center.
We remember the comfortable words that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, and that he is even now calling all who are weary and heavy-laden to come unto him for rest.
