The Ministry of Prayer at the Advent House

This ministry began in 1996, and from January 1999 to March 2012 Advent House was home to the Rev. Peter Newton and Mrs. Janice Newton (above) for six to twelve weeks each year.  The Newtons retired from active ministry in March 2012.  Over the years they faithfully developed this ministry and trained prayer intercessors.  These prayer intercessors prayed in support prayer during the prayer sessions led by the Newtons and continued the ministry of prayer when the Newtons were at home in England.  This team of prayer intercessors continues this ongoing Christ-centered, compassionate healing prayer ministry under the guidance of our Advent House Chaplain, Canon Craig Smalley and our Advent House Coordinating leader, Mrs. Kathy Logue.  All prayer sessions are entrusted to Christ and held in utmost confidentiality.

The intent of the Advent Ministry is to glorify God and to edify others by praying for two reasons: healing was an integral part of Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry, and healing reveals the living God at work in our present lives.

“The outcome is that God is glorified, the faith of the people of God is encouraged, the doubtful are required to re-examine their questions, the unbeliever is challenged to face the possibility of a real God, and we are all brought nearer to being the whole human person that God created us to be. So we are all challenged by the prayer ministry. Do I want the wholeness of life that is God’s gift to me as a person? Jesus said, “I am come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). Am I open to explore this path, trusting my God, as He leads me along it?” (Janice Newton, “Advent Healer”)

Advent House has a special appeal because everything from the renovations to the landscaping, the furnishings and the ultimate purchase of the home has been provided for through gifts donated by parishioners and other friends.

Every parishioner who supports Advent House through prayer, physical help and financial contributions, participates in this unique ministry and contributes to the countless ways people’s lives are touched.
