For over a century, the Advent has hosted the Lenten Preaching Series and Lenten Lunches, a series of daily sermons during Lent with accompanying meals prepared by parishioners. Preachers from around the world attract both those who work in downtown Birmingham and those who make a trip especially for this unique opportunity.
One of the Advent’s most intensive and expansive ministries, the Lenten preaching and lunches nourish both body and soul.

Epilogue: 2016 Lenten Lunches
by Bethany Rushing
I’d like to offer special thanks to our 2016 Lenten Lunches chairs, Sidney Clapp and CeCe Martin. They worked tirelessly, motivating those around them and always keeping in mind the ultimate goal of this work: to proclaim the Good News of Jesus to a world longing to be filled up – body and soul!
All proceeds go to support Mission & Outreach. For Lent 2016, our chairs chose to support women in crisis. $54,500 was shared between two ministries: Horizons International and WellHouse Ministries. These one-time gifts support the women’s discipleship efforts of Horizons, working with refugees in Beirut, Lebanon, and the recovery efforts of WellHouse, working with trafficking victims in Birmingham, Alabama.
2017 Lenten Lunches will be here before you know it. Please join me in praying for next year’s chairs, Anne Lynn Langloh and Theresa Gregory.
