Meet Our New Director of Mission and Outreachbethany600

Advent Outreach is thrilled to welcome Bethany Rushing as our new Director of Mission and Outreach, effective August 14, 2015.

Bethany is a 2006 graduate of Samford University with a B.A. in Communication Studies (and a minor in Religion). She comes to us from working most recently as M-POWER Ministries’ first Director of Development. She has also served as a member of the Mission Council for PEARUSA (formerly the Anglican Mission in America) and holds a certificate in non-profit management from Georgetown University.

As a high school student, Bethany worked amongst the poor in the urban ghettos of Tampa, hosting weekend block parties for families. It was through this work that the Lord cultivated within her a love for those trapped in poverty and the desire to serve them. In her work at M-POWER, Bethany managed relationships with funders, church partners, and volunteers to carry out the organization’s mission to help people develop the tools to break the cycle of poverty.

As Director of Mission and Outreach, Bethany is excited to be a part of the Advent’s work in bringing about the kingdom of God “on earth as it is in heaven,” both locally and abroad.

Sharing the Gospel – the good news of forgiveness, salvation, and new life in Jesus Christ – is the heart of all that we do at Cathedral Church of the Advent. Advent Outreach and Missions seeks to share the Gospel with people here in Birmingham and around the world through word and deed. We feed the hungry here in town with worship, Bible study, and food. We support missionaries in several foreign countries, some of whom risk their lives to share the good news of Jesus. We teach Bible studies to students of local schools, and support a Christ-centered upbringing for orphans in Bolivia.

We are all a part of these ministries through our annual tithes. If you are looking for a special gift that would honor a loved one and give glory to Christ, please consider a “Gift of Grace”, and help provide additional support to one of the many Advent-sponsored ministries. See the 2013-2014 gifts of grace catalog and  order form.
