Joining the Advent Family
At the Advent, our members make up a family of families. While we come here from different places and in different ways, our trust in Jesus Christ brings us together as brothers and sisters. We are so glad that you are considering adopting us as your family of faith. Please see below for important information regarding formal membership opportunities and reach out to Fontaine@CathedralAdvent.com for additional information.
Before joining the Advent, whether you are coming from another Episcopal church, another denomination, or no church at all, we ask that you first attend a membership class series we call the Inquirers’ Class. This series gives us a chance to get to know you as you get to know the Advent, gaining an idea of what we believe and why. Our next one-day class will take place on Saturday, April 18 at 9:00 a.m. Please contact Fontaine@CathedralAdvent.com to register.
Baptism is the sacrament through which we all first enter the Christian family. Baptism is always available for unbaptized persons of any age.
Confirmation allows you to profess publicly your faith in the Lord, and confirm the promises of God spoken over you at your baptism. In the Episcopal Church, a bishop is present to witness your confirmation of these promises. As the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) states, it is a way for an individual to “express a mature commitment to Christ,” and is also a formal way of joining the Cathedral Church of the Advent.
“It is required of those to be confirmed that they have been baptized, are sufficiently instructed in the Christian Faith, are penitent for their sins, and are ready to affirm their confession of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.” (BCP p. 860) The Inquirers’ Class is the best place to start receiving sufficient instruction.
Confirmation at the Advent takes place once every year, typically in the Spring. During your Inquirers’ Class cycle, you’ll learn more about the ceremony and dates. We also celebrate New Member Recognition in the Fall during many of our services and we’ll communicate these details to you as they become available.

We celebrate major life milestones at the Advent and revel in God’s many lifelong blessings. In general, membership is required for baptisms, weddings, and funerals hosted at the Advent. Exceptions are possible, contact us for additional information.
