A New Day for Holy Cross Trussville
Message to the Holy Cross Trussville Parish from the Rev. Steve DeGweck, Interim Rector:
Your Vestry is thrilled to announce that the Rev. Wes Sharp has accepted our call to be the next Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross. For the past five years, Wes has served as Assistant Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lake Mary, Florida. Prior to his ordination to the priesthood, he served St. Peter’s as their Youth Minister and Discipleship Director.
Wes holds the Master of Divinity degree from the Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, Florida, and a Certificate of Anglican Studies from Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary in Nashotah, Wisconsin. Wes is married to Alison, and the Sharps are the parents of three boys, ages eight, five, and nine months. Wes and Alison met while both were students at Samford University here in Birmingham. A self-described “music guy,” Wes is a native Alabamian, born and raised in Fort Payne. His passions are faithfully preaching and teaching the scriptures and leading the contemporary worship band at St. Peter’s contemporary service.
Wes will preach his first sermon at Holy Cross on Sunday, November 6th. I know that you will find Wes and Alison to be warm, friendly, and delightful folks, Christ-centered in their vision for Holy Cross, and people-oriented in their ministry among you. In the time I have spent with them, I have come away thoroughly impressed with their devotion to Christ, to their family, and to their call to ministry. They are excited about coming to Holy Cross and look forward to getting to meet and know all of you. Please join your friends on November 6th to welcome Wes and Alison Sharp and their children to the Holy Cross family!
Finally, a HUGE thank-you to Mike Rohr and a hard-working Search/Discernment Committee for months of patient, persistent work that has now resulted in what we have all been long praying for—a faithful pastor for this wonderful church! Praise God from whom ALL blessings flow!
