This is significant research. Bonner and Goodhew are not partisans, but observers of growth and decline in the Anglican Communion. Both are academics that have no agenda other than attempting to see where the Communion is growing (or declining) and think about why that may be.

The numbers around the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) have been obscured by the political wrangling in Anglicanism, so I am grateful for the two of them rising above the fray to attempt an objective view as to what is happening in North American Anglicanism.

If their conclusions are true, then to ignore the ACNA would be a great mistake for North American Anglicanism. As has been noted by Andrew Goddard and Ephraim Radner, any future for Anglicanism on our continent must include the ACNA.

It seems that the research for Bonner and Goodhew is showing an emerging identity within the ACNA that is not ‘We’re a better version of the Episcopal Church’ or ‘We’re not them’, but something different.
