Fred Teardo to lead Advent Episcopal School Choral Ensemble
It is with bittersweet emotion that we thank Advent Episcopal School Choirmaster and Organist Rick Phillips for his wonderful years of music leadership as we share news of his transition to a new chapter in his life and career. “Mr. Rick” (as his is affectionately known by the school community) will leave his current role at the end of this academic year after building a truly incredible legacy of sacred music among the many students blessed by his caring instruction. His new role will involve full-time ministry at Highlands United Methodist Church, after “sharing” his time with Advent for many years. Our church family has been blessed by these students through many services of Lessons and Carols, Evensong services (including just recently), and other special choral events, and we’re deeply grateful for the gifts God has given to us through the work of Mr. Rick.
While we’re always sad to see a beloved teacher move on, we’re grateful to God for paving the way for Fred Teardo, the Advent’s director of music, to assume leadership of the Advent Episcopal School Choral Ensemble. Beginning next academic year, Fred will lead school students as they continue to develop the skills they’ve developed under Mr. Rick’s guidance. Alongside this responsibility, Fred will continue his ministry work at the Advent and at Samford University. Fred’s unique leadership roles within these organizations will allow him significant influence over the next generation of music ministers in Birmingham as he shares the wonderful and rich music ministry heritage we experience at the Advent every Sunday.
Please join us in praising God for these two men, and in praying for the Advent Episcopal School community as they search for a new music teacher for non-ensemble school students.
Information regarding opportunities to honor Mr. Rick will be posted as details become available.
