This particular verse (from Prov. 19:14) is not quite as patriarchal as it might seem at first glance. After all, what are houses and wealth but things “where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break in and steal” (Matt. 6:19)?
And what is a prudent (or understanding or insightful or congenial) wife but a treasure beyond compare?
