Ecclesiology
Our 3,500-member congregation comprises one of the largest Episcopal parishes in the United States, and since 1982 the church has served as the cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama.
The Episcopal Church (fully titled,The Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America) is an American branch of Anglicanism – those churches planted throughout the world by the Church of England. It became an independent church in 1789.
The Advent holds to the basic doctrine of historic Anglicanism, as contained in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, the three historic creeds (Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian), the 39 Articles of Religion, and the Book of Common Prayer.
