For the 111th consecutive year, Lent at the Advent means preaching, eating, and fellowship. Since 1908, thousands have gathered to hear the Word preached in a way that enlivens, confronts, encourages, and clarifies. The emphasis we place on preaching “Christ and him crucified” – nothing other than the gospel of God’s love for sinners – is in full focus during lent.

The lunches (and desserts!) create so many opportunities for connections; it is impossible to say how many friendships have been formed and strengthened during the making and enjoying of the lunches. We hope you can “taste and see” that this is true.

For the 2018 Lenten Lunches, we will be operating a bit differently, with lead chairs for each weekday, and specialized leaders for other tasks:

    Mondays: Janice Pitts
    Tuesdays: Jean Oliver
    Wednesdays: Katie Patrick
    Thursdays: Liz Lee
    Fridays: Tanya Cooper
    Ordering: Lyn Lanier
    Publicity: Kelley Norwood

Please pray for these leaders and the entire Lenten Preaching & Lunches ministry!

Our 2017 Lenten Lunches raised over $35,000 to support women and children at Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries and the Shyira Diocese in the Anglican Church in Rwanda. Proceeds from the 2018 Lenten Lunches will go to support Foundations Early Learning and Family Center.

    Cathedral Church of the Advent

Advent is a gospel-centered church, with a “living, daring confidence in God’s grace” (Martin Luther) evident in any of our programs and ministries. Holding to what the Letter of Jude calls “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints”, this gospel focus finds the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus ever and only at the center.
