A home for saints and sinners in downtown Birmingham

Captivated By the
Gospel of Jesus Christ

The Cathedral Church of the Advent is a gospel-centered church, with a living, daring confidence in God’s grace that finds the cross and resurrection of Jesus ever and only at its center.

Preaching at the Cathedral Church of the Advent focuses on the gospel in every sermon. Join us on Sundays at 7:30, 9:00 and 11:00 a.m., or 5:00 p.m., and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.

Dynamic and engaging music ministries provide many opportunities throughout the year to engage with sacred music and modern musicians in downtown Birmingham. Home to the Cathedral Choir and Advent Birmingham, the Advent offers programs for everyone.

Christian Education

The Advent creates space for the word of God to do the work of God every Sunday through Christian Education programs for all ages. From children in the nursery through adults of all ages, our classes help everyone discover Jesus Christ and the transforming love of his gospel.

Small Groups

The Advent’s small groups ministry helps make our large church feel smaller. Groups gather between Sundays to study the Bible, pray together, and develop bonds of friendship that help all involved know the grace of our Lord.

Please Join Us

Join us as we worship together on Sundays. Traditional services are held in the Nave at 7:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. Less formal services are held at 11:00 a.m. in the Refectory and at 5:00 p.m. in the Nave.

We gather on Thursday mornings at 8:30 to worship with our downtown Birmingham community. A band leads this service and sack lunches are available for all in need.

The Advent hosts a wide range of seasonal and ongoing events in our historic building, including concerts, various programs, and lectures from visiting pastors.
